The Integrative Health Project (IHP) is committed to serving under-resourced and marginalized populations who have limited access to holistic health programming. Erica Rumpel, founded the project on the theories and practices of Yoga, Mindfulness, and Health Psychology. Through experiential educational sessions, children, adolescents, and adults learn to develop positive coping skills, stress management techniques, positive relationships with the body, and use movement and mindfulness to explore emotion. The goal is to provide access to holistic health programming for those who currently have limited or none. IHP provides education and teaches simple techniques that empower participants to achieve personal health...that leads to larger community health. The current body of research on the effects of stress on physical and mental health indicates that programs like the Integrative Health Project are needed, especially in communities with few resources. IHP will bring experienced staff, tools, and techniques into communities as well as invite participants into a studio space located in Humboldt Park.
The current body of research on the effects of stress on physical and mental health indicates that programs like the Integrative Health Project are needed, especially in communities with few resources. IHP will bring experienced staff, tools, and techniques into the community as well as invite participants to a studio space within the targeted community. To measure the program's effectiveness, participants will be invited to complete culturally sensitive assessments to inform future program development. Sustainability is the goal; yoga principles and program efficacy are the techniques.
IHP teaches FREE weekly yoga classes at Urban Lotus Yoga to youth residing in Humboldt Park. In addition, parents and staff members receive stress management and self care training to increase productivity and quality of life.
